How to set up an apache web server on Amazon EC2 linux

a quick Apache server build on Amazon EC2 linux

rpm -qa | grep httpd to check and see if apache is installed
yum install httpd
chkconfig httpd on
service httpd start

From EC2 Management tool ->

Go to the Security Group settings in the left hand navigation
Find the Security Group that your instance is apart of
Click on Inbound Rules
Use the drop down and add HTTP (port 80)
Click Apply

Test access to your site http://yourfullinstancename.compute.amazonaws.com
